After Transcarpathia was in 1919 incorporated to the newly established Czechoslovak Republic, the local Hungarian minority community had soon produced its own political elite. One of its prominent personalities was K\u00e1roly Hokky, member of the Prague national assembly, later its senator, and, in the revision period, the co-opted representative of the Hungarian parliament. In the end of the Second World War he emigrated to the United States, where he, known as Charles J. Hokky, continued his activities in the field of minority protection, as far as conditions allowed it in the circumstances of emigration. This study follows his personal and political life path.<\/p>\n
