The Old Takarék. The short history of the Savings Bank in Ipolyság (1868–1945)

The writing deals with the largest financial institution of Ipolyság (Šahy), the history of the Ipolyság Savings Bank founded in 1868 and operated until 1945. This credit intermediary deposit bank was one of the main supporters of economic and cultural development of the city. The board of the bank was set up from among the local elite. The savings bank’s shareholders were aware of the social, educational and cultural needs of public significance. The savings bank’s lending policy, financial position and services were greatly influenced by the state and boundary changes in the 20th century.
