Lajos Garaj: The Tragedy of the Human in the Czech and the Slovak Theatres
The study introduces the Czech and Slovak theatrical performances of Imre Madách’ drama The Tragedy of the Human. Its premier in Prague was in 1892 (on the basis of the German translation by J. Vrchlický and Fr. Brábek; the translation itself was censured). Later it was played many times in different Czech theatres. Its premier in Slovakia was in 1925 in Kassa (Košice), in translation of P. O. Hviezdoslav, than a year later the Slovak National Theatre in Pozsony performed it. In 1966 the Košice theatre performed it in translation of C. Štítnický, then in 1969 in the Hviezdoslav Theatre in Pozsony. The author also mentions the articles in the press in detail.
