János Botos: Christians and Zionists for saving persecuted Jewish children – Fórum Társadalomtudományi Szemle

The deportations of Jews living in the rural parts of Hungary began on 14 May, 1944. A large number of Christians and Zionists strived for providing refuge and protection for the persecuted Jewish children. Many Jewish parents tried for placing their children with reliable people and to baptize them in the Christian faith, so that they, after being converted, had more chance to survive the persecution. This study does neither attempt to give a summary on the rescues, nor a complete list of the rescuers, it only tries to highlight some important episodes of hiding and harbouring Jewish children.
