Zuzana Poláčková: Slovak-Hungarian Relations in the Reflexion of the Press and Scientific Literature in Some of the European Union countries
In the center of this study stands the three basic problems relating the research of nationality relations: relation of Central European minority and majority and its presence in the press and scientific works in the European Union. In the first part the focus is set on minorities, concretely on the years after 1989 and the 90’s of Hungarians living in Slovakia, on evaluation and perception of the situation characteristic during the Meèiar-government period. The topic of the second part is Austria and the Netherlands, the minority issue and the attention payd to the Slovak-Hungarian relation in these two countries. In the second part the modern research methods and connections of European nationality and minority problems are described.
The European dimension brings new aspects to the research. Such conceptions like ethnic conflict, incompatibility and antagonisms stay background. Development within the region, issues of democratisation of the society and the creation of a civil society are primary, and also comparing apprisal of these phenomena represented by „old” and „new” members of the European Union. In the Slovak Republic this approach is expressed mainly in the effort that is directed on the examination of the European history, European regions, categories of Central European civil categories, level of achieved democratisation and examination of the civil society.
